A real fashion extravaganza
Dubai's most fashionable are going to want to attend the much-anticipated Modista exhibition, set to take place on October 6. With their brand partner Vesimi, the event will be a festive Diwali edition, and it is the perfect one-stop shop to pick up accessories, apparel and lifestyle goods for a special occasion. Visitors can expect to find some famous designer labels such as Balance by Rohit Bal, Divya Reddy, Premal Badiani and Gauahargeous, which is being brought to Dubai by Gauahar Khan (pictured here) for the first time. All this, plus plenty of exciting activations!
The great sushi challenge
Put your love for the Japanese delicacy to ultimate test with this sushi challenge. As part of Sumo Sushi & Bento's special Yokozuna Challenge (to last until October 20), participants will be required to finish a special 1kg sushi roll. Stuffed with avocado, crispy tempura and crab stick, this is sure to be a treat. If you finish it under 25 minutes, the roll is free. If not, you have to pay a fee of Dh60. The top five participants will have a chance to compete against each other. The title of Yokozuna Champion, cash prizes and a free Yokozuna Tray for a year are up for grabs. Stay cool as a cucumber
DXB Cucumber Day is back. Following its success last year, over 50 venues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be accepting the green fruit in exchange for a cool drink - for one day only. October 10 is that day, so head to any of those venues (including the likes of Axe House and Copper Dog). To take things to a whole new level, this year there will also be a 'cucumber bus', free for patrons to hop on and off as they wish. There will be two routes across Dubai. Check out www.wcd.mrh.ae to find the bus routes and venues accepting your 'cucumber currency'.
How long can you plank?
FBC DXB (Fitness Bootcamp Dubai), the well-known fitness company in Dubai, has brought back the fitness challenge that was launched last year under the name 'Plank Challenge'. The main focus will be to see how long a participant will be able to hold the plank position. Coach Mostafa Mersal will be preparing participants to compete against each other with training classes scheduled to begin at the start of October at Iconic Fitness in Dubai Marina, Kite Beach and Mirdiff, with winners to be announced at the end of the month. Ready for it?
