#OnlyInDubai: Care to ‘eat’ your favourite artist?

Dubai - Guests at the local eatery can now add ‘taste’ to the senses with which they appreciate art

There are many ways to experience and appreciate art. Art can be viewed, felt and listened to — but of all the senses we usually employ to enjoy these expressions of creativity, ‘tasting’ a work of art is usually not on the cards.

A local Italian eatery is proposing a quirky, way to get around that by curating a collection of limited-edition dishes that “fuse culinary excellence with renowned artworks from eight revolutionary artists”.

Inspired by the celebrated artists showcased at the recently launched Theatre of Digital Art (ToDA), Trattoria’s sous chef Andrea Brugnetti and his team are doffing their collective toque blanches (white hats) to the masters of old — from Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet to Wassily Kandinsky, Edvard Munch and more.

Want to appreciate Kandinsky’s most famous painting, Squares with Concentric Circles? An abstract strawberry panna cotta dessert, featuring geometric forms and patterns, will satiate your palate.

Care to recreate Monet’s The Luncheon? Green pea velouté with soft boiled egg and aromatic herb salad — the same ingredients the French painter featured in his painting of a family lunch scene — will be yours to tuck into too.

True patrons of the arts will, no doubt, be sure to have a ball, recognising the creative team’s odes to everything from Cubist styles to The Scream.

The Souk Madinat eatery will feature a new pair of dishes every week, from October 25 to November 28 — and ToDA ticket holders can avail a credit of Dh75 against a minimum spend of Dh150 at Trattoria upon presentation of their ticket.
