Facebook and my foodie fetish

These days, I am posting a lot on Facebook. about food. Okay, make that posting a lot of food photos along with some dim-witted comment on how such-and-such delicacy came to pass. The other day, I had sat down for breakfast at a club-class place, and when my order arrived, I got out my phone (I'd promised I wouldn't take it out of my bag for the duration of breakfast - that I was partaking with a very dear friend), and started re-arranging the table top, dragging a glass bowl of water with a sunk-in orange-yellow gerbera (flower, in case you were wondering) right next to my plate of cheese omelette with sides of baby potatoes, cherry tomatoes and wilted spinach. "What are you doing?" exclaimed my horrified friend. "Taking a picture," I responded dreamily. "Gotta post it on Facebook." Instagram, reportedly, is even more addictive. in the dietary sense. That's where most of the foodie action is taking place; I'm not part of 'insta-gratification' (yet) but the fact that even someone as tech-challenged as I am is seeking gastronomic validation is a pointer to how social media is changing the way we eat. There's more on the menu in our cover feature.
Breast cancer has long ceased to be the domain of the ladies. and, happily, it's no longer 'taboo' to get the men into a condition associated with "breasts". More and more men are coming out in support of the 'movement', in an attempt to be part of the support system for their wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, friends. Meet the men who don't think it's sissy to think pink. Our weekly dose of filmi entertainment is on how Bollywood is dumbing down - wait for this - gossip! Kitchen Classics keeps up the good work of "health first": yet another delicious instalment on why light is right. If you've been feeling worn out lately, it might do you good to know that fatigue has been around in our (human) system since time immemorial... a timely piece on tiredness. All this and much more.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend.
