My granddaughter is two years old. She was born with straight, but thin hair. In keeping with traditional methods, we shaved her head a few times, thinking her hair would grow back thick, but it didn't work. Now she has thin but curly hair. What can be done to increase her hair thickness?

Hair thickness and quality are hereditary traits. After the toddler is bathed, and while her scalp is wet, massage her scalp with a mix of a few drops of castor oil and a few drops of coconut oil, slightly warmed. Leave it on all day. Let her wear a cotton cap to keep the scalp warm, especially at night, or she may catch a cold. Castor oil is a thickening agent and coconut oil nourishes the scalp.

I'm 17 years old. Could you suggest a way to remedy patchy, tanned skin, and pimple marks?

Patchy skin requires a scrub three times a week. Add half a teaspoon of sugar to half a teaspoon of corn flour and a teaspoon of yoghurt. Apply this mask on your face and let it dry. Dampen the skin a bit and scrub in circular movements. The dead skin will be removed and the skin will be polished to an even tone. Follow with a cold-water rinse. Yoghurt is an anti-bacterial and gives the skin a healthy glow; sugar and corn speeds up exfoliation and gets rid of dead cells.
Please suggest a home remedy to remove sebaceous filaments on the nose. Also, how long will it take until I see a difference?
  • Afnan
Clear and smoothen sebaceous filaments with a simple mask made by mixing a tablespoon of warm water with half a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda. Apply on your face and when dry, scrub well and rinse with warm water. Do this twice a week. Bicarbonate helps to swell the skin, bringing the sebaceous filaments to the surface. After doing this five to ten times, you will see a difference.
I am a 15-year-old with hair and skin problems. My frizzy and curly hair never stays in place, and I have also contracted lice. How can I make my hair silkier, and get rid of lice and their eggs from my hair? Small pimples have started appearing on my face as well. Please help!

Use this multipurpose mask, which is an all-in-one effective remedy for all your problems: Take one tablespoon of yoghurt, a tablespoon of aloe vera and  10 drops of tea tree oil, and mix well. Apply on your face, scalp and hair. Comb your hair through with a fine lice comb after an hour. Rinse your hair with a herbal shampoo, avoiding warm water (do a cold water rinse). This treatment shows effective and quick results if done thrice a week. Yoghurt is anti-bacterial and conditions hair, while tea tree treats lice and pimples, and aloe vera is an excellent skin and hair conditioner and cleanser.
