Shag layers haircut
Some like it hot
Have you seen the Shag layers haircut? If not, you should. It’s one of the hottest trends to hit the catwalks this summer — and according to L’Oréal Professionnel, it is the ‘look’ to sport this season.
The hairstyle is very versatile and you can interpret it in a variety of ways, from grungy to messy and dusty to 70s-style. The brand says a key colour trend to wear with this hairstyle will be red — just look at how fabulously Rihanna, Katy Perry and Vanessa Hudgens are carrying it off!
If hot in red is not your thing though, you can also opt for ‘grown-out blonde’. Stars Khloe Kardashian and Ashley Olsen are leading the way on this one.
Whichever way you decide to go, it’s all about playing with your style — and, of course, sporting the ‘it’ factor this season.
One for the chocoholics
Italy has a long-standing tradition of chocolate making, with several famous and historic chocolatiers to boot. Eataly, located in Dubai Mall, is paying tribute to some of the finest names in the industry with a chocolate festival starting May 31. With brands like Domori — the world’s first chocolatier to use exclusively sourced fine cocoa and to create a 100 per cent cocoa bar — and Venchi, which boasts 130 years of passionate chocolate-making, Eataly’s special chocolate menu will give chocolate fans in the UAE plenty of reason to cheer. The chocolate festival lasts until June 17. Call 04-3308899 for more information.
Ring in the holidays
Ring in the holidays
With summer holidays in the offing, Sky Jewellery has announced a campaign to celebrate the holiday buzz. Titled ‘Gifts At Home Holiday Campaign’, the first coupon was presented to Lalith Mohan Asthana, CEO, Bank of Baroda, by chairman and managing director of Sky Jewellery, Babu John (pictured).
The campaign works on the basis of a lucky draw — customers get one coupon for every purchase worth Dh500 of gold jewellery and two coupons for purchase of diamond jewellery from any Sky Jewellery outlet across Oman, Qatar and the UAE.
The brand will announce 120 winners over the next few weeks and each winner can walk away with a variety of home appliances, from TVs, refrigerators and microwave ovens to food processors, air fryers and PlayStations. Or, to be more precise, have their gifts delivered to their homes, absolutely free of charge.
Now, that’s how you celebrate the summer holidays!
Movie-time
Dolphins
Small-town Emirati director Waleed Al Shehhi is headed to the big screen with his new movie, Dolphins, which is out in the UAE at VOX Cinemas on June 4.
Voted Best Promising Emirati Director by DIFF and riding on the high of a sold-out audience at the 11th edition of the festival held in December, 2014, the Ras Al Khaimah-born filmmaker’s flick tells of three separate worlds that collide in the span of 24 hours — and how it changes the destinies of all involved. It’s drama all the way, and even more exciting because it’s an offering from this region!
Run time: 90 mins.

Say it with flowers
Say it with flowers
Roses are some of the most romantic ways to tell someone just how much you love them. But what if you can now use words in addition to your gesture too? Florabella, a UAE-based floral provider, is offering a new service that will enable customers to emboss personalised messages, images and logos on the petals of live flowers of their choice. That means your loved one can not only guess what you’re trying to say — they can read it too! Now there’s no need to throw in a greeting card as well. Visit www.florabella.ae for more information.
