Ten minutes of thunderous rain that fell in parts of Dubai, drawing people to their windows and balconies, made sure the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology’s weather forecast came good.
When informed of the downpour, a spokesman said: “It’s good news, Dubai only witnessed a few drops of rain before, at 12pm ... we forecast the Northern coastal areas were going to witness rain but only a few drops (fell, so now) the forecast is good.”
A low pressure system over the country had caused lower air temperatures on Friday, with highs falling from about 25 degrees to 23 degrees.
“Cooler air temperatures caused clouds to develop and accumulate over the sea and move fast to the northern coast (where they) combined with rain.”
The rain, which fell hard and pounded the ground in Al Quoz about 7pm, was not recorded as there is no weather station in the area. It left puddles and slippery roads.
The spokesman said the weather would be temperate over the next few days, with clouds and moderate to rough seas.
Rains were expected to develop in the Western regions by Monday.
