The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Umm Al Quwain Police general headquarters have arrested two individuals in two separate cases for impersonating CID members to carry out thefts.
In the first case, the police arrested a GCC national charged with multiple counts of house thefts and police impersonation.
Elaborating, the police said they received multiple complaints from people that a man wearing the national costume approached them and stole their belongings, after claiming to be a police officer. The suspect would enter the houses, under the pretext of conducting a warranted search, steal the wallets from homes and flee the scene. Upon receiving the reports, the police formed a search and investigation team to track down and arrest the suspect.
The CID team managed to identify and arrest the suspect within a short time, based on the descriptions provided by victims, and referred him to the public prosecution after completion of all legal procedures.
In the second case, the CID arrested another man who impersonated a CID officer to carry out thefts. The suspect stopped a vehicle and asked the victim to step out, claiming to be a police officer. He searched the vehicle, took the money and asked the victim to follow him to a police station, before fleeing the scene. The suspect was later apprehended by CID members, and was referred to the public prosecution after completion of all legal procedures.
The Umm Al Quwain Police called upon members of the community to be fully aware of their legal rights and not to give in to any suspicious requests to show their ID cards, unless legal procedures are followed.
