Abu Dhabi authorities on Thursday announced a number of traffic rules for the New Year holidays, including road closures and a ban on heavy vehicles.
Bridges on Al Maryah Island — one of the major venues for NYE celebrations — will be closed on both directions from December 31 until January 1.
Explaining the closure, the emirate's Integrated Transport Centre shared this map in a tweet:
The red lines indicate closed roads while the green lines are for open ones.
The Abu Dhabi Police also announced a ban on trucks, heavy vehicles and buses transporting workers on all roads and streets in the emirate for New Year. This includes Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Musaffah Bridge, and Section Bridge.
Gen Mahmoud Youssef Al-Balushi, director of the Traffic and Patrol Directorate for the Central Operations Sector, explained that the ban will be implemented from 7am on Saturday, December 31, 2022 until 7am on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
He pointed out that smart systems will be used in order to provide more traffic control during this period.
Integrated Transport Centre also announced that along with trucks, labour buses are banned inside Abu Dhabi Island on New Year's Eve from Saturday, 31 December 2022 (7am) to Sunday, 1 January 2023 (7am). Logistics and general cleaning company vehicles are exempted from the ban.
