As Dubai Marina's Torch Tower with 86 floors caught fire on Friday night, this couple walked down 50 floors with two cats.
From apartment 5004 of the blazing Torch Tower, the had to walk all the way down to safety. Woken up with fire alarm at 1am, South African national Anel says, "I'm just glad my two photo albums are still in south Africa. We're usually crime victims, not fire victims."
My husband and two cats are the most important thing, she said, even smiling. This was her first week in the building, on the 50th floor of Torch Tower, in fact her third day. "Everything important is tight here."
Anel and husband Raymond Martin's cats are Zoe (16 years old) and Xena (1 year old).
Only once before have they walked down 50 floors - for a fire drill and not an actual fire in South Africa.
Raymond works for an audio visual company and Anel is trying to get a spouse visa.
