. Prepare practically by: Providing as much information as possible in advance - tell the accommodation provider when you will be arriving, what university you will be attending, whether you have any special requirements, what type of people you'd like to share your room or apartment with.
. Confirm what's included: Most student accommodation does not include bedding, towels, pots and pans, etc. Check if this is the case and make provisions for these. Pack for function and comfort. The room may not be as big as your room at home. So prioritise the most useful items.
. Prepare mentally by: Bringing an open mind and heart - you will find yourself living with people from all over the world. They may have different cultural and religious traditions practices, food habits, or views and opinions from you. Treat it as an opportunity to learn and share.
. Arrive a few days early: Try to arrive at least three days before University starts. This gives you plenty of opportunity to unpack and set up your room, discover the local amenities, practice your route to the school and meet the people you will be spending the next 6-12 months living with.
