Eman Al Hashimi, the first Emirati female composer, wants her composition to be the first Emirati music played in space.
The pianist, who had composed a melody to celebrate the launch of the Emirates Mars Mission, said: “I want the UAE to be the first country in the world to play a female composition in space. I want my music, an Emirati composition, to be the first-of-its-kind in space. I want to be the first female to send some Emirati emotions to space, to outside our planet. The music and the achievement will be for the UAE, the Arab world and women. It was a man who was first to land in space. Emirati female music in space will be great.”
Eman has performed her own composition for the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. She composed a mix of Indian and Emirati music for the opening of Sheikh Zayed-Gandhi Museum. The composer has formed her own bands Eman Al Emarat and UAE Pioneers Musicians.
Compose to help Covid patients recover
Eman also plans to create soulful music for Covid-19 patients to help them recover. For years, she has performed at different hospitals to ease the pain of patients. During Covid-19 pandemic, she composed music for frontline health workers. And now, she wants to create "surviving music" for Covid-19 patients by speaking to people who have recovered from the infection.
“I want to make a special music for Covid-19 patients. I will interview those who have recovered from Covid-19 and compose music with their genuine feelings. I want to translate their words and experience into music. I will call it ‘surviving music’. It will be music from one soul to another. It will give hope to people under treatment and in quarantine to overcome the situation.”
Experimenting with music
Currently, Eman, a certified life coach, is experimenting the use of music for self-development.
“Music has a tongue. Sometimes, you have to talk with the music. If you mix life coaching and self-development with music, it’s the best way.”
She is also working on composing music based on the nature/character of a person, which they can listen to in different situations.
“Every soul has its own rhythm. I find out the rhythm that a person should listen to. I can help tell people what they should hear during their different emotions,” Eman added.
Eman has completed her masters in strategic public relations and communication. She is an avid reader, writer, poet and painter. And all of these activities go hand in hand with her government job. She enjoys strong support from her parents and family members.
“As a child, I liked music and sound. It grew in me. I have very encouraging parents, who have got nothing to do with music. They are my first audience and critic.”
