Two 18-year-old boys stood trial on the charge of attempting to steal a bicycle from the parking lot of a metro station.
The duo, an Emirati and a Comoros Islands passport holder, are also accused in the Court of First Instance of physically assaulting a security guard there.
They have accomplices who have been referred to the Juveniles Court. The incident occurred on August 9 at Al Twar Metro Station and was reported to Al Qusais police station.
An Indian security guard said during the investigation that he approached the accused after spotting them trying to steal a bicycle parked at the metro station. "I had just finished my duty around 9pm. One of them was on his bicycle while the other was trying to break the locks of a bicycle with a hammer. When I asked them what they were doing there, I was attacked with that hammer. Then three of their friends arrived on bicycles. I ran inside the station and they chased me. The accused who carried the hammer hit me on my back with it while another suspect threw a shoe on me. They kept chasing me until the station police caught them".
A policeman said the incident was reported around 1.15am on August 10. The public prosecution enclosed some CCTV recordings to the case file.
The security guard identified them at the police station on August 14. A medical report showed the attack left the victim with arm bruises and minor hand pain.
