His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has urged citizens and expatriates in the emirate to participate in the Sharjah Census 2015 and cooperate with the census teams.
In a televised statement, Dr Shaikh Sultan said the census will help officials lay down plans and improve services.
He encouraged Sharjah residents to cooperate with the census teams by giving them accurate data and information. He assured the residents that data and information provided to the census teams will be kept confidential and won't be used for any other purpose.
A study based on the census results will be carried out, which will benefit everyone in the emirate, he stressed.
The Sharjah Ruler said the census is being carried out with focus on six community elements: The elderly; orphans; widows, divorced and abandoned women; disabled; job-seekers; and uneducated people.
Regarding the elderly, he said Sharjah has launched many initiatives to serve them, including a mobile dental clinic and a physical therapy clinic. The census will help determine the number of elderly people in the emirate and how best to serve them, he said.
The census will help identify the number of widowed, divorced and abandoned women, and assess what needs to be done to provide them with housing, an income and assistance in taking care of their children. "I am not here speaking as a Ruler, but as a father or a brother. Each woman is my sister, mother or daughter, and I urge them to tell us what they need. We are not seeking to create a problem but to find a solution," he said.
Similarly, orphans and the disabled will be given the care and attention they require.
Held under the slogan, "For a better tomorrow", the census will provide accurate and reliable statistical data to be used in serving the development, economic and social sectors of the emirate. This is the largest statistical operation ever launched in Sharjah, covering every element of society including families, individuals, properties and structures.
The census will provide comprehensive and accurate data about all establishments within the emirate and will also identify the economic activities of these establishments.
