Some government schools in Ras Al Khaimah sent their students home early on Wednesday due to heavy showers.

Mainly kindergartens, mostly located close to the valleys and mountains, were affected by the rain.

"Some parents, including myself, decided to not send their children to school for their safety," said Abdullah Al Shehi, an Emirati national.
Sources at Emirates Transport said that the heavy showers lashed the emirate - blocking roads and uprooting some trees and poles.

"Some rocks have also fallen from the nearby mountains, particularly those close to Ghalila, Shaam, and Halhal valleys."

However, older students came to schools despite the showers, they added.

"Some schools sent the students home earlier today by 1pm due to the heavy showers before the valleys are flooded with rain water."
