The department of public works in Ras Al Khaimah has developed the arterial Wadi Haqeel road at the Shaml area which has recently seen a significant urban expansion.
However, residents have urged bodies concerned to supply light to the major three-km road to curb accidents, ensure traffic flow, and boost ongoing projects.
"The two-lane 3km road is one of many projects the department is developing of which 70 per cent have been accomplished. The whole project is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year."
Residents of Wadi Haqeel said the new arterial road has put an end to many of their problems, especially transporting children to and from school, but they complain about lack of light on the road.
Ali Saeed Al Shamili, a resident of Shaml area, said the new road has been developed as per the latest international standards in a record time.
Now, it has become easier for school buses to drop students at their doorstep, he added.
Mohammed Akram, a resident of the Shaml area, said the underway infrastructure projects, spanning houses, roads, hospitals and schools go with the current expansions in the emirate.
"The new road is very helpful to residents, particularly as the area has 52 villas. But the much-awaited road still lacks light so that people can use it safely."
Ibrahim Radwan, a resident of Shaml area, said the new road has made the distance with nearby areas closer.
"The residents here used to take a long time to cross the dusty and bumpy road."
