Thirteen sterilisation gates, along with thermal cameras, have been put up at Sharjah Municipality as it started welcoming back some of its employees on Sunday.
Thirty per cent of the municipality's staff have reported back to work on Sunday, in accordance with the civic body's proactive plan and with strict measures in place to fight the spread of Covid-19.
Thabit Al Turaifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality, said their buildings are now prepared for employees' return, ready to provide top-notch services to customers.
Twelve of the automatic gates - made from recycled materials and other used spare parts - were designed for the sanitation of employees and customers as they come in. Another gate was set up for the sterilisation of municipal vehicles.
"Municipality teams have issued safety guidelines that all employees must follow while they are at work. The guide shall also help the heads of departments in setting up plans to ensure a safe and healthy environment," Al Turaifi said.
Besides self-sterilisation, social distancing and other precautionary measures were implemented, he added.
On all tables at the municipality, barriers are put up between employees and customers so that transactions can be completed safely.
Signs are placed on the ground across the halls and inside elevators to remind people of social distancing. Smart screens also display safety advisories in different languages.
