New public park in Sharjah opens

 

Sharjah - As part of the celebration of the 33th plantation week being held under the slogan “together for green Emirate”, the Sharjah Municipality on Sunday opened a new public park called Al Mufijah.

The plantation week is an annual event being celebrated by municipalities across the country.

Reyad Al Alian, Acting Director-General at the municipality said that the civic authority is making great efforts to increase and expand the greenery in the emirate in order to enhance the agriculture infrastructure. The municipality is also supporting the plantation and landscaping in the emirates to ensure better environment and agriculture sources.

The efforts of the municipality regarding beautification and landscaping of the emirate, contributed a great deal in helping Sharjah get the Arab cities organisation award.

The opening of this new park takes the number of parks in Sharjah to 54. Located in various parts of the emirate, these parks provide best services for visitors and are equipped with best and advanced equipment, such as benches, BBQ, trees, flowers, children rides and various other entertainments.

He pointed out that with efforts of the municipality and agriculture policy, the green areas were increased to 13 million square metres during 2012 and beginning of 2013 and there was also an increase in plantation of palm trees and beautification trees and flowers in the various parts of the emirate.

This new park, unlike others, include football, basketball, volley ball courts, children rides and green areas of 40,000 square metres. The municipality is currently working on establishing four more parks which will be opened soon.

Al Alian, during the opening ceremony of the park, honoured winners of the most beautiful residential park awards.
