A 39-year-old Omani man stood trial in the Court of First Instance, accused of assaulting and resisting two on-duty police officers.

The case dates back to February 7 in Al Qusais when the unemployed man allegedly resisted the two police officers while they were executing an arrest order against him.

"Around 4:30 pm, my colleague and I were given instructions to arrest the accused who was wanted in connection with several cases and by several sides.

"We went to his place in Oud Al Muteena and we spotted him parking outside a nearby shop. We showed him our cards and told him we were assigned to take him into custody. He stepped out of his car but did not want to come with us," a police corporal said.

"He pushed and hurt us with his nails. Eventually, we handcuffed him and put him in the patrol car."

The other policeman gave a similar statement during public prosecution investigation. "We told him we are CID officers and tried to talk him amicably into going with us but he was rather very aggressive and tried to run away by pushing us. I was left with scratches on my right hand because of his nails," the officer told the prosecutor.

The two cops took him to the police station and went later to get checked at a hospital for injuries and have a medical report and another from the forensic expert.

The forensic report showed the incident left both officers with minor hand and arm scratches.

The accused claimed to the investigating prosecutor he was punched by the officers.

However, no injury marks were spotted on his body at the time of his arrest.
