A 25-year-old Indian worker was run over by a speeding car being driven by an Emirati teenager in Al Fujairah on Tuesday evening. The teenage motorist didn't have a driving licence.
As soon as the operations room received a call informing them about the accident, an ambulance and traffic police team were dispatched to the site, said Brig Mohammed Rashid bin Naee Al Tunaiji, deputy police chief of Al Fujairah Police.
When they reached there, they found the man had already died due to severe damage to his skull, he added.
The team shifted the body to the morgue of the Debbah Al Fujairah Hospital for completion of burial formalities.
The teenage driver has been taken into police custody for more investigation.
The deputy police chief called on the public to cross the road only from designated areas. He urged parents not give their cars to kids who don't have a driving licence so that such horrific accidents can be curtailed.
