A commemorative stamp has been launched to mark the first time that clean electricity has been delivered to the UAE, following the start-up of the Unit 1 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi.
In August this year, the plant was successfully connected to the Abu Dhabi electricity grid to ensure the power generated at Barakah is safely, securely and reliably delivered to consumers across the UAE.
Featuring an image of the plant, the commemorative stamp has been issued by the Emirates Post in collaboration with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC).
The initial run will feature 25,000 commemorative stamps along with 1,000 First Day Covers and 1000 postcards. They will be available for sale across all Emirates Post Central Customer Happiness Centres as well as on Emirates Post’s dedicated web shop emiratespostshop.ae, starting October 25.
The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant is the first operating nuclear energy plant in the Arab World aimed at supporting the diversification of the country's energy portfolio as well as reducing carbon footprint. When its four units are fully operational, the Barakah plant will provide up to 25 per cent of the UAE’s electricity requirements, while preventing 21 millions of carbon emissions every year.
