Founder and chairman of Virgin Group Sir Richard Branson was at the Dubai Mall on Friday, December 13 to launch the Made51 initiative in the UAE.
An initiative by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which protects and supports refugees around the world, Made51 aims to support refugee artisans and introduce their handmade products to the global market.
The Virgin Megastore Middle East team announced the launch on their Instagram page by sharing an image of Richard Branson at the store branch in Dubai Mall. The post said, "At Virgin Megastore, we are advocates of doing business for good. We are ecstatic to launch this partnership with Made51 by UNHCR by bringing beautiful refugee-made products to the UAE for the first time."
The statement read, "We all have dreams and aspirations. Together, let's help refugees and their families across the globe build a better future by supporting #MADE51 products.
"Refugees often leave behind their livelihoods when fleeing violence. Made51, UNHCR, offers refugee artisans a way to earn an income and the opportunity to re-establish their independence," the statement added.
