A kitten that appears in a video of a meeting between the UAE President and Vice-President is going viral for all the right reasons. In the video, the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, can be seen petting the kitten as he discusses important matters of the state with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai:
The kitten seen in the video has an already-famous mum who featured in another viral video. Back in August 2021, the cat — which was pregnant then — was saved by four men as it fell off a second-floor balcony in Deira.
One of its saviours, Abdul Rashid, couldn’t contain his excitement upon seeing the love showered on the cat’s little one by none other than the UAE President himself. He was among the four who got a cash reward of Dh50,000 from Sheikh Mohammed for their actions that saved the cat’s life.
Reacting to the video of the kitten enjoying a seat between the UAE President and Vice-President, Rashid said: “I am speechless. It’s been a year since I saw the cat we rescued. I was so happy to see its kitten. It looks just like its mother, doesn’t it?
“The Sheikh’s office had taken the pregnant cat away on the same night we rescued it. To know that the cat and its little ones are still being cared for by the Dubai Ruler is just incredible.”
For Rashid, knowing that the cat got a royal lease of life is the “biggest reward [he] got.”
“It looks like the rescued cat, and her kittens have a free reign at Al Marmoom Rest House. I just have one more wish. I want to see the cat once again. I hope I can soon.”
In the video that went viral, the cat is seen dangling from the balcony. A group of three men quickly takes position below with a bedsheet spread out as a safety net. The cat falls into the bedsheet, possibly saving her life. The men then pat her as she walks away unharmed.
Sheikh Mohammed had shared the video, seeking public help to locate the four “unsung heroes”.
The other men in the video were Ashraf, a Moroccan watchman; Atif Mehmood, a Pakistani salesman; and Nasser, an Indian driver working with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
