A delivery worker, who was left with a permanent disability in his left leg after being hit by a reckless motorist, has been awarded Dh150,000 in damages.
The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance ordered the insurance company that covered the driver's car to pay the compensation amount after he was found guilty of causing the crash.
Official court documents stated that the victim, an Asian, was riding his motorbike on one of the roads while delivering items to customers when the car accidentally knocked him down. The man sustained serious injuries in various body parts, including his legs. He was taken to a hospital.
Police blamed the crash on the car's driver who was reckless and didn't pay attention on the road.
A medical report said the worker had suffered 45 per cent permanent disability in his left leg as a result of injuries from the accident. Doctors said the man could no longer continue with his delivery work on a motorcycle.
The delivery man filed a lawsuit against the company that insured the driver's car demanding Dh200,000 in compensation for physical, moral and material damages he suffered as a result of the accident.
After hearing all parties, the judge ruled that the insurance firm should pay Dh150,000 for the damages suffered by the man, in addition to all the legal expenses.
