How do you keep youth engaged and employed in times of terrorism and adversity? French President Emmanuel Macron had the answer on Thursday when he said countries need to create opportunities for them by deepening business and trade ties while promoting shared culture and values.
At a time when the youth is being lured by extremist ideology, the French president, who is on a two-day official visit to the UAE, said the common challenge of the region is to "defend reason, tolerance and respect for each other". He was speaking at the UAE-France Business Forum.
"Culture and education play a huge part; business and economy is another component. Attracting talent, developing innovation and building smart new cities is the right way to create openness for people to develop together," Macron said.
He said agreements signed with the UAE and the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi is a significant step to create a liberal order that welcomes people.
