The second phase of the paid parking system has been activated on Al Ittihad Road from Sunday, according to a senior official at the Ajman Municipality.
Dr Mohammed bin Omair, director of the engineering department at the municipality, said the department has implemented the paid parking system on Al Ittihad Road in two phases, as it is one of the most vital roads witnessing traffic around the clock.
"The department launched the first phase in January 2016. The system will help in maintaining the flow of traffic and regulate traffic movement. It was implemented under the instructions of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Ajman Department of Planning and Municipality, to organise parking spaces."
He added the project came in response to the demands of people who requested the control of parking in residential areas to avoid exploitation of parking spaces by people who do not belong to the area.
The parking fee will be Dh2 per hour in the morning and Dh1 in the evening. Inspectors are deployed to follow up and monitor violations, and misuse of parking spaces in two daily shifts, from 8am to 1pm and 5pm to 9pm.
Dr Omair said that motorists can pay the parking fees through their available devices, or through 'My smart location' app. He urged the public to cooperate and follow the rules to avoid fines.
