“As of Sunday, ADNOC Distribution will reduce the price of gas cylinders by up to 12 per cent in the Northern Emirates as part of the company’s commitment to its customers and consumers,” said ADNOC in a statement.
Residents in the Northern Emirates will, however, still continue to pay more than double for the gas cylinders compared to Abu Dhabi where the cost of a 15.5kg cylinder is only Dh20. And, this time around, there is no change in price in Abu Dhabi since it is already subsidised and is the lowest in the country.
The company produces three sizes of cooking LPG cylinders — 15.5kg, 26.4kg and 52kg. In Abu Dhabi, the 15.5kg cylinder costs Dh20, 26.4kg costs Dh40 and 52kg costs Dh70. The costs for newly purchased filled cylinders are Dh200 for the small cylinder and Dh250 and Dh400 for the medium and large cylinders respectively.
According to the company, only the prices for the small cylinders have been brought down in the Northern Emirates. Medium and large cylinders that are mainly used by commercial entities are not available in Northern Emirates.
The price reduction, according to the company, has been brought about due to a decline in international prices, and to help reduce the domestic financial burden on the people in the Northern Emirates. —nissar@khaleejtimes.com
