Eight in 10 Abu Dhabi residents are aware of proper waste handling and pest control practices, a survey done by the Capital's waste management centre, Tadweer, revealed.
Conducted in partnership with Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi, the survey involved 2,760 citizens and expatriates across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
Respondents were asked several questions related to the basics of waste disposal and pest control, and results revealed that the overall community awareness stood at 83.1 per cent.
The poll also gauged the community's knowledge of Tadweer's services, with results showing that 91 per cent are aware of the centre's programmes. They said TV commercials, radio ads, friends, and social media primarily helped them get the necessary information about these services.

Dr Salem Al Kaabi, general manager of Tadweer, said: "This survey articulates Tadweer's continued efforts to build an integrated system for waste management and pest control, while providing high-quality services to community in line with the latest standards and global best practices.
"In addition to identifying the needs of the Abu Dhabi society and the multitude of challenges they face, the survey will go a long way in creating new opportunities to achieve a safer, healthier and more sustainable environment in Abu Dhabi."
Emiratis accounted for 57.1 per cent of the survey participants, while the number of residents polled was at 42.9 per cent. Some 55.8 per cent of respondents were from Abu Dhabi City;  29.7 per cent from Al Ain; and 11.4 per cent from Al Dhafra.
The survey targeted all age groups and its results will be used to tailor Tadweer's awareness programmes to the needs of different segments of the community.
Tadweer is a government entity responsible for all activities related to the development of waste management services in Abu Dhabi. These include the collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of waste in a safe, efficient manner.
The centre is also tasked with carrying out pest control, educating communities about the significance of protecting the environment, and encouraging them to adopt good environmental habits to drive sustainable development.
