The Umm Al Quwain Police have extended the 50 per cent discount offer on traffic fines from December 2 to January 2 next year.
The one-month extension is aimed to give motorists with expired registration cards enough time to pay pending fines and renew the cards, a top police officer has said.
Lt.-Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department, said many drivers have benefited from the discount scheme that has been in place from October 18.
"More drivers are expected to avail the offer through the one-month extension," he said. "Only the fines caught by the UAQ traffic police on the emirate's roads are eligible for the discount. The 50 per cent discount is for unpaid fines for speeding and other traffic violations, and these may be paid at any service centre across the country."
Lt-Col bin Aran, however, said violations that posed a risk to road users' life are not eligible for the discount. These include driving in excess of 160km/h, jumping red lights, racing and tinting windows beyond the permissible limit, among others.
