Dubai Municipality lifeguards managed to save 392 people from drowning over the past three years, a top official has revealed. The municipality officials also treated 633 people for injuries, sun strokes and jelly fish stings at Mamzar Park, Jumeirah Beach Park and swimming areas of Hatta and Mushrif.
Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi, director of public parks and horticulture department, said three drowning cases were reported 2014. Of these, two happened due to the victims suffering heart attacks, while the third happened because the resident was swimming at 5am -  before the rescue team's shifts start.
Currently, 45 lifeguards are deployed across four swimming areas in Dubai. "The department provides all requirements necessary for rescue operations on beaches and swimming pools, including the automatic recovery device that was recently added to help with drowning cases immediately before ambulances arrive," said Al Awadhi.
