A two-month-old baby was among the 21 residents who were rescued after a fire broke out in a villa in Abu Dhabi. According to the authorities, the villa was partitioned into nine residential units with several families of different nationalities calling it home.

Lieutenant Colonel Salem Hashim Al Habashi, director of operations department, General Directorate of Civil Defence, said three residents suffered from suffocation and had to be hospitalised.

After dousing the flames and cooling operation, the civil defence handed over the site to the police. A senior police official said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. The police called on residents to adhere to safety regulations to prevent fires at homes.
Just last week, the Ras Al Khaimah Police had rescued 66 people from two residential compounds after a massive fire broke out in the Barirat neighbourhood. No casualties were reported.
