The speed limit on the Al Fayah-Seih Shaib Road in Abu Dhabi has been reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h.
The Abu Dhabi Police said it decided to cut the speed limit for all light and heavy vehicles for the smooth movement of traffic and to maintain safety on the road, which splits off from the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road and runs inland through farming land.
The new speed limit came into effect on September 1.
Colonel Ahmad Al Shahi, director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said that a recent study showed that the number of accidents recorded on Al Fayah-Seih Shaib Road increased during the first half of 2017.
"We urge all motorists to abide by the new speed limit which was reduced from 100km/h to 80km/h and to observe other traffic rules and regulations which aim to save lives and boost traffic safety on roads," he said.
Traffic authorities said the number of light vehicles have also increased on the road, which is mainly designated for heavy vehicles - resulting in the cases of serious crashes.
