The defeats are a jolt to a full-strength Pakistan side in their preparations for the Twenty20 World Cup
Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Assistant Director General for Operations at the Corporation, said taxi meters start ticking at Dh3 for all trips inside and outside the emirate. “However, passengers are only charged Dh20 on cab trips outside the emirate.”
Jarwan told Khaleej Times that all cabbies are instructed to add the Dh20 on outside trips only at the end of the trip. “This is because some passengers have complained that cabbies added the extra Dh20 at the beginning of the trip though they sometimes change their mind, and hence they fought each other.” Passengers may now change their mind at any time of the cab trip as was the case before. “All cabbies are stringently ordered to add the extra Dh20 only at the end of the trip.”
The Dh20 are added to the Salik Gate tariff, if passed through any. “Cab meters start ticking at Dh3 from 6am to 10.59pm and Dh4 from 11pm to 5.59am.”
Jarwan indicated that the poster already stuck at all cabbies display these facts. “All passengers are urged to keep in touch with Sharjah Transport Office at 600525252 round the clock to submit their comments, complaints and suggestions on the services being provided.”
Sharjah Transport is running a big fleet of 4,800 taxis operated by four franchise companies, apart from 224 public buses — MCV and King Long, all driven by 12,064 drivers.
