Post the Covid pandemic, the Emirates has emerged as one of the most popular spots for destination weddings
Although the general consensus among many is that new drivers are the most dangerous on the roads, the statistics have revealed that those who have been driving for three years caused the most risk to road users. Out of the total 82 deaths witnessed on the emirate’s roads during the past six months, 12 were caused by this particular group. They also caused the injuries of 124 people.
The industrial areas located throughout the emirate have been ranked as the most dangerous areas for hit accidents, and four out of the 24 people who were killed in such accidents were crossing roads in the Jebel Ali area, during the same period.
The statistics showed that drivers who obtained a driving licence in less than a year were the second most likely to be involved in road accidents.
Drivers with one year of experience were involved in 86 accidents within a year and caused the deaths of four people, and the injuries of 135, while drivers with more than one year of experience caused 60 accidents, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and the injuries of 95, including 10 serious injuries.
Drivers with two years of experience caused 78 accidents that led to six deaths and 104 injuries, with drivers who had been on the roads for three years proven to be the most dangerous.
Those with four years of experience caused 73 accidents, leaving four dead and injuring 103.
The statistics did, however, show that the number of accidents dropped in the majority of cases where drivers had more experience on the road.
Those who had been driving for five years caused 35 accidents that led to the deaths of six people and the injuries of 38, and drivers who had eight to nine years experience caused only 22 accidents, with no deaths reported.
Those with 14 to 15 years experience on the road were involved in only 20 accidents, with no deaths recorded.
