The renewal of driving licences will be shifted from front-end centres in Dubai to innovative and smart channels of the Licensing Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) starting June 1.
The smart channels are RTA website (www.rta.ae), call centre (8008080), trusted agents (driving institutes), and eye-sight testing centres (Yateem Optician, Grand Optics, Magrabi Optical, Sharp Vision, Dubai, Emirates, and Barakat).
To be shifted are an array of services relating to the renewal and issuance of driving licences, issuance of replacement/lost or damaged driving licences, and the issuance of experience certificates and to Whom It May Concern certificates.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said switching the delivery of services to the public to innovative channels is an integral part of the authority’s business drive. The move is in keeping with its vision aimed at improving and providing customers service 24X7 under the overall vision of the Dubai government to transform the emirate into the smartest city worldwide within three years.
He said the delivery of such services through front-end centers will be confined to four centres only — Al Manara Centre, Al Twar Centre, Tasjeel Centre, and the JBR Service Centre — to make the service still available to some community segments, who are not in a position to interact through other channels, provided self-service kiosks and smart telephone apps will be provided at a later stage in a gradual manner.
“The Licensing Agency will gradually embark on making other services available through smart channels to boost their use amongst the public and customers and meet their ambitions, particularly as they combine accuracy and simplicity in processing transactions at world-class standards in order to maintain the pioneering stand of Dubai emirate in various fields,” Bahrozyan added.
