86% of UAQ Bypass Road work over
The Ministry of Public Works has completed 86 per cent of the second stage of the Bypass Road starting from the Falaj Al Mualla - Umm Al Quwain intersection and ending at the Crossing 103 of the Emirates Road at Al Aqran area.
The Dh170-million project is part of the initiative of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to ease and enhance inter-emirate transport.
“The two-way road now consists of three lanes each, with enough space for an extra 13-km long lane in the future,” Dr Abdullah Balhif Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, said, adding that the road also includes two over bridges and two subways.”
Meanwhile, the ministry is currently preparing designs for the third stage of the road stretching from Al Rams area to the Emirates Road. “The projects to be carried out in 2012 under the initiative of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is valued at Dh5 billion.”
Dr Al Nuaimi said the 120-million Gasidat-Shaam road project, approved in October 2011, is a quantum leap in the infrastructure of the region that will help enhance flow of traffic.” In the first phase, the road starts from Al Gasidat Roundabout in Ras Al Khaimah in the direction of the Shaam area for nine kilometres.
“The road, passing through residential and commercial areas, adds more significance to establishing service roads, pedestrian crossings, concert barriers, traffic lights and signs, as well as networks of lights and sewage,” he added. Dr Al Nuaimi then said that the Sidr Valley project implies the use of solar power in lightening the area there. “The project will help decrease carbon emissions, and hence air pollution.”
