As many as 76 motorbikes have been impounded so far during the holy month of Ramadan in Umm Al Quwain.
Col Saeed Obaid bin Arran, director-general of the traffic and patrols department at the UAQ Police, said the motorbikes seized were part of the 'Watching Eye' initiative to better control traffic on the roads of UAQ.
More inspections will be launched to clamp down on the negative phenomenon, he added.
"Unlicensed and unregistered vehicles were among the impounded motorbikes.
Some of them were caught while performing stunts on public roads."
Citing an example, he said an Emirati young man succumbed to injuries after the motorbike he was riding at a high speed overturned several times.
The UAQ Police have launched several campaigns to raise public awareness about the negative impact of speeding, he said.
"The traffic staff officers also paid visits to residential areas and gave tips to the public to protect the life of road users, curb traffic accidents, and ensure smooth flow of traffic."
Lt-Col Bin Aran urged parents not to allow their children to ride motorbikes.
"Several accidents have been recently reported due to motorbikes which pose a grave risk to road users." Most of the seized motorbikes were ridden by young people, he added.
