US pair wins Paris doubles title
PARIS - The American pairing of Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy won their first doubles title together by beating Vera Dushevina and Ekaterina Makarova of Russia 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the Open Gaz de France on Sunday.
This was Mattek-Sands’ ninth doubles title and the 17th for Shaughnessy. They lost the final in New Haven and Memphis last year. The Americans clinched victory when a volley from Makarova went long.
