Mixed fortune for Marwan Kaissi

AJMAN - Marwan Kaissi had mixed fortune in the finals of the boys under-18 and boys under-16 singles of the Ajman Kempinski Open Junior Tennis Championship 2010, a press release said.

In the boys under-16 singles final, Marwan Kaissi outclassed Dylan Mendonca 6-3, 6-0. In the first set, Dylan started well serving hard and hitting some excellent forehand winners.

However at 2-3 Marwan broke Dylan’s serve to make it 4-2 and won the set 6-3 with excellent ground stroke winners on both flanks. In the second set, Marwan completely outplayed Dylan moving him from side to side and finishing off points at the net with good volleys. Dylan’s erratic ground strokes did not help his cause as he lost the set 6-0 and the match. The boys under-18 final, was a closely fought affair. Top seed Kirk Reubeyas edged out Marwan Kaissi 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 to win the title. The match saw both players committing unforced errors at crucial stages to lose games.

In the first set, Kirk led 4-2 only to play a string of unforced errors to loose four games in a row and the set 6-4. In the second set, Kirk’s outstanding athletic ability and finishing strokes saw him win the set 6-0. In the third set, it was again a repeat of the first set but it was Marwan who led 3-2 and 4-3 but lost three games in a row to lose the set 6-3 and the match. Meanwhile, in the boys under 14 quarter-finals, all the seeds moved into the semifinals. Top seed Kareem Allaf outplayed under-12 top seed Karim Najia 6-0, 6-1 to enter the semis. Allaf’s superior ground strokes and power was too much for youngster Najia. In another quarter-final match, Arjuna Ajai edged out his doubles partner Anshul Choubal 2-6, 7-6, 10-8. Jordan Janszen blanked Akash Bisht 6-0, 6-0 and Christian Linge outplayed Daler Amirbek 6-1, 6-1 to take the other 2 semifinal spots.
