The UAE had a rollicking day at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium as they pounded the Maldives to register a huge 331-run victory on the third day of the Asian Cricket Council's Under-16 Western Region tournament being held in the UAE.
This was the hosts' second successive victory after having defeated Oman on Monday. They now top the Group B with four points. In another match at the Ajman's Eden Garden, Kuwait eased past Bahrain by 167 thus registering their second victory to top Group A.
Maldives were immediately made to regret the decision to put the UAE to bat first as openers Ronak Sudesh P and Ansh made their intentions clear from the word go.
They spared no bowlers and dealt in boundaries and sixes to share an impeccable double-century partnership for the opening wicket as both of them also secured impressive centuries. The duo were in the middle for 22 overs in which they milked together 259 runs and when it looked like Maldives bowlers were running out of ideas, Ronak Sudesh was unlucky to be run out. His 72-ball stay fetched him 124 runs studded with 18 boundaries and three sixes.
His partner Ansh also faced same number of deliveries but scored 142 supported by 17 fours and seven sixes.
Yuvraj J (37 not out, 22b, 3x4) and Harsh Ashutosh (21 not out, 17b, 1x4) shared an unbroken 62-run partnership for the seventh wicket providing the final touches as UAE amassed a massive 392 for six in 35 overs.
Chasing an imposing target, Maldives felt the heat from the start and kept losing wickets frequently. Only two batsmen managed to reach double figures as they were shot out for a mere 61 in 25.2 overs. For UAE, Harsh Ashutosh was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets in his six overs giving away only 13 runs including two maidens. Chathiya Huppegoda and Adithya Shetty claimed two each.
The other match was also a completely lop-sided one. Electing to bat first, Kuwait opener Gokul Sunil Kumar scored a patient 38 off 46 ball to provide his team a steady start.
Abdul Sadiq (50, 50b, 6x4) and Govind Sunil Kumar (56, 62b, 2x4, 1x6) both slammed impressive half centuries before Jandu Hamoud Amanullah fired a quickfire 70 from only 37 balls assisted by five hits to the fence and as many over it to help Kuwait reach a brilliant 249 for six in 35 overs.
In reply, Bahrain were completely out of sorts and saw only small contributions from Thirumal Varnan (22), Jagan Vijayakumar (20) and Novead A (17) as they were shot out for a paltry 82.
Naman Kirankumar Patel was the star bowler for Kuwait to claim four wickets while Faez Ahmed Q pocketed three and Abdul Sadiq took two.
