The UAE has welcomed the first Indian Premier League team (IPL) today. Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, arrived in Dubai on Thursday.
The cash-rich league will be staged in the UAE from September 19 to November 10 after the disturbing rise in Covid-19 cases in India forced Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to look for an alternative venue.

The UAE, having staged the first phase of the 2014 IPL, won the rights to host the most popular T20 league in the world.
The Royals and the Kings have already shared images of their players at the airports in India on their social media platforms prior to their departure for the UAE.
The players and staff of all the teams will undergo Covid-19 tests upon their arrival at the UAE airports before being put in a six-day quarantine.
Once they complete the six-day quarantine, teams can start their training sessions in the UAE for the tournament.
The ICC Academy in Dubai and Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi will provide the teams with world-class facilities to prepare the players for the big tournament in the UAE.
