Despite 10 positive cases, Pakistan to go ahead with England series
All the first-choice red-ball squad, barring Mohammad Rizwan, are negative, according to Wasim
Despite 10 Pakistan players testing positive for coronavirus, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan said England tour was on track.
Fakhar Zaman, Imran Khan, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Rizwan and Wahab Riaz tested positive along with team masseur Malang Ali.
The PCB on Monday confirmed Haider Ali, Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan had tested positive for the virus.
Pakistan's Test and limited-overs squads are set to tour England for three Tests and three Twenty20 internationals. They were due to fly out later this month before going into quarantine ahead of the first Test starting on July 30.
PCB Chief Executive Khan said the country's cricket team would continue the preparations for the England series as only one member of the Test team - Mohammad Rizwan - had tested positive for Covid-19.
"The tour to England is very much on track and the side will depart as per schedule on 28 June. Fortunately, all the first-choice red-ball squad, barring Mohammad Rizwan, are negative, which means they can start training and practicing immediately after they have been tested and given the all clear when they arrive in England," Khan said on Tuesday.
"In the meantime, Misbah-ul-Haq is reviewing the training schedule in England and is firming up plans for reserve players to be tested as a backup," he added.
Meanwhile, England director of cricket Ashley Giles said the tour was expected to go ahead.
"At the moment I don't think the series is in doubt. We're far enough away from the start of the Test series to not worry about that too much at the moment," Giles told reporters on Tuesday.
"There are some more Test results coming out later from the rest of the group, so we'll see what that says. But we're still hopeful that the Pakistan team will be arriving in the country fairly soon."
