Wrist spinners share eight wickets
With Virat Kohli leading India to a formidable 303 total it was left to their wrist spinners to do the demolition job. And, Chahal and Yadav did exactly that by equalling sharing eight wickets in bowling out South Africa for 179 in 40 overs. Duminy was the highest scorer for home team with 51 but the rest of the batsmen just struggled to read the orthodox veggie Chahal and chinaman bowler Yadav.
Kohli played an intelligent knock by accumulating his runs by running between the wickets rather than going for boundary shots as the ball stopped and came onto the bat making it difficult to go for the shots. He prudently waited for the ball and statistics revealed that flick was his most productive shot in the match.
While Kohli notched his 34th century, Dhoni quietly crossed 400 marks for his dismissals in the ODIs.
The Indians are a dominant force in the shorter version of the game after losing the Test series 1-2 to South Africa, who are plagued by injuries to their front-line players.
India one wicket away from taking 3-0 lead in ODI series
The South Africans continue to play across, Imran Tahir after hitting Chahal through the line for a four, tries another across the line and is taken at deep long-on by Kohli for the ninth SA wicket for 167 after 38.4 overs.

India's wrist spinners keep striking
Andile Phehlukwayo tries to hit Yadav out of the park but manages to sky the ball and Kohli runs in to take an easy catch to get the eighth South African batsman out as they hurtle towards defeat as they are reduced to 158 for 8 after 37.2 overs

Zondo's patience runs out 150 for 7 in 30.1 overs
Zondo's patience runs out and tries to hoik veggie Chahal out of the park but ends up sending the ball high up and substitute Manish Pandey pouches the catch with east short mid-off and SA are reduced to

The sixth South African batsman falls
Chris Morris tries to hit Chinaman bowler Kuldip Yadav across the line and a straighter ball keeps a bit low and catches him plumb in front of the wicket for the sixth South African wicket for 150 in 35.2 over.

South Africa 129 for 5
As asking rate mounts Miller feels the pressure and goes for a big slog to a ball on leg stump but manages only faint edge through to Dhoni behind the wickets. He took 42 balls for his 25 with only one four.

South Africa 122 for 4 after 30 overs
The South African batsmen continue to play more dot balls as the asking rate climbs to 9.1 after 30 overs. The home team were 122 for 4 with otherwise aggressive south paw David Miller scoring his 23 runs at a strike rate of 63.88. It looks an uphill task for Miller and debutant Zondo to turn the tide in favor of the proteas.

South Africa 95 for 4

Chahal  gives a big jolt to South Africa by removing the set Duminy after the left-handed batsman had completed his 24th ODI fifty.  Duminy's opted for a review after given lbw but the ball spun back in and hit Duminy on his front of leg. He is found trapped in front of the wickets.
South Africa 89 for 3 in 19.4 overs
Heinrich Klassen has no clue as Chahal turns the ball away from the right hander and the South African wicket keeper is caught plumb in front of the wickets. He consults Duminy and walks off without asking for a review. Was it worth a review? Replays suggested no Duminy was right in advising against the review.

South Africa 79 for 2 after 16.2 overs
After holding on well for first 15 overs, skipper Makram steps out to the first ball from Kuldeep Yadav, fails to reach to the pitch of the ball, gets beaten as the ball turns away from him and easy job for Dhoni to whip off the bails and toss the ball away for the South Africa's young skipper to trudge back to pavilion.

South Africa 51 for 1 after 11 overs

After Hashim Amla's early wicket to Jasprit Bumrah, skipper Aiden Markram and Jean-paul Duminy have held the South African innings well but the asking rate is climbing gradually as the Indian seamers kept them in check with a discipline bowling. After 11 overs the home team had scored 51 for 1

India 303 for 6, 50 overs
Virat Kolli showed a lot of patience to deal with a wicket that offered pace and variable bounce as Rabada and Nigdi troubled the batsmen in initial overs. Kohli had sensed that the ball was stopping and coming and thus planned his innings accordingly. He did not go for expansive shot making or going for big shots across or over the ropes.
He accumulated his runs by most effectively employing flick as he waited for the ball to come onto the bat rather going for the ball.
Uncharacteristically, Kohli's strike rate was below 100 until the last two balls when he hit his second six followed by a boundary to take his personal score to 160 not out. Before that he had hit only 11 fours and his first six came in the 49th over when he hit Morris over long-on where Miler took the catch but fell over the ropes, conceding the maximum runs. His brilliant efforts took India's total past 300 mark as they finished at 303 for 6.
The South African batsmen will find the target tough under lights and against the wrist spinners, who have troubled them from the first ODI.

India 246 for 6 after 44 overs.

A soft dismissal of Kedar jadhav and India pegged back slightly. Jadhav tried to steer the ball to third man but it was beyond his reach so managed to edge it to keeper Klassen.
India 228 for 5 after 41.3 overs

India lost fifth wicket when Dhoni holed out to Tahir and Ngidi took a comfortable catch at deep long-on. The former captain struggled to score 100 off 22 balls. Kohli is holding another end with his 34th century (111, 130 balls, eight 4s)

India past 200. Four wickets down after 36.2 overs.
India 194 for 4 after 35 overs.

Pandya's six in the 32nd over was the last boundary India got thus the scoring rate has come down to 5.54 runs an over but with the two stalwarts Kohl and Dhoni ready to tango together, a 275-plus score is on the cards and that would be a tough target to chase under lights at this ground. If the South African spinner Duminy could make life difficult on this wicket, they will face potently deadly wrist spinners in Kuldip Yadav and Yajuvendra Chahal.

India 188 for 4 32.5 overs

Kohli advises Pandya saying in Hindi that the ball is stopping and coming but two balls later Pandya edges Morris to Klassen after scoring 14 off 15 balls. Kedar Jadhav gets an opportunity to show his batting skills now and keep captain company for a bigger total that could put the match beyond South Africa's reach. Kohli is on 82. The old war horse M S Dhoni joins Kohli, lets see how far the former captain and curret skipper take India's total to.

Kohli hits 34th ODI hundred

Kohli gets his 34th ODI hundred  with a brace off Duminy  but Dhoni's inability to rotate strike and hit boundaries has slowed down the Indians as they reach 214 for 4 after 39.1 overs.

INDIA 170 for 3 after 30 overs

The fall of Dhawan and Rahane has slightly slowed down the Indian scoring rate but with Kohli playing well and hard hitting Hardik Pandya with him in the middle the scoring rate would pick up as the game progresses.

India 160 for 3/ 27.4 overs

Duminy strikes again when he forces Rahane to step out and the batsman manages only to chip the ball as he gets beaten by the drift and flight from the offie. Phehlukwayo takes the catch at long-off. Kohli is holding the other end to slowly and steadily inch towards his 34th ODI century.

 India 140 for 2

Dhawan falls against the run of the play to off spinner Duminy as he steps out to hit on the onside but at short midwicket Markram pulls off a stunning catch with his left hand while airborne. Ajinkya Rahane comes in.

India 118 for 1 after 20 overs
Dhawan continues to hit boundaries (11 so far) as India gradually accelerate the run rate to 5.9 an over. Dhawan's 67 has come off 54 balls while Kohli is steady at 46 after facing 60 balls. He is patient and letting Dhawan take the centre stage as the two Delhi teammates take India towards a big total on a wicket not known for plenty of runs.
India 100 for 1 in 17.2 overs
A miscued shot from Kohli off Ngidi fetched him a brace that took the Indian total past 100 at a run rate of 5.82 an over.

 India  87 for 1 after 16 overs

Dhawan has punished anything short or leg side to accumulate eight boundaries in his 40-ball 47 as he added 87 runs from 96 balls with Kohli, who has hit some exquisite hits past the ropes in his 50-ball 37. He hasn't looked as fluent as in previous games on this tour, especially in rotating the strike and stealing singles and twos.

India 52 for 1 after 11 overs

With Shikhar Dhawan in his elements, the Indian total is moving at 5 runs an over. The Delhi Southpaw has hit five boundaries in his 19-ball 24 so far while at the other end after a bit shaky start, Kohli continues his form. A bit slow for 36-ball 25 so far but the skipper has also reached the ropes five times so far. After conceding only three runs an over in his first spell of five overs, Rabada was replaced by Andile Phehlukwayo, who bowled a tight 11th over.

India 28 for 1 after 6 overs

A Rabada attempt to bang the ball short in the fifth over proved counter productive as in-form Kohli pulled the short ball , sending it past midwicket boundary in the otherwise tight over except for a wide as the bowler conceded five in the over. The wicket not only has a lot for the fast bowlers but there's a variable bounce to keep the batsmen on their toes. Rabada has done a fairly good job of keeping a tight line and length to concede only nine runs in his first three overs. While Ngidi has been slightly expensive giving away 19 in his first three overs  overs.

Virat Kohli survived a leg before decision after a review.

A full length ball on the leg stump hit him on the pad and umpire raised his finger. Kohl reviewed and it turned out that he had nicked the ball otherwise it was clipping the leg stump and umpire's original call was out. Fans of Kohl must have heaved a sigh of relief.  After the review, Kohl goes and argues with the umpire.

India o for 1:

From the word go the variable bounce in the Newland pitch was evident as Kagiso Rabada made Rohit Sharma uncomfortable. In the fourth ball of the first over, Rohit survived when a climbing delivery hit the splice of his bat and went up in the air. JP Duminy dived at point but the ball fell inches short and Rohit survived. However, not for long as he fell in the last ball of the first over bowled by Rabada. A fast delivery took inside edge of Rohit's bat and Heinrich Klaasen pouched an easy catch behind the wickets.

At the venue known for low scoring matches, hosts South Africa won the toss and surprisingly asked India to bat first at the Newland ground in Cape Town on Wednesday.
The stand-in South African skipper Aiden Markram, however, justified his decision when he said: "We understand India do chase well. There may be some assistance up first. Klaasen and Lungi Ngidi make their debut. No Morne Morkel. Andile is back for for Shamsi. We spent our time on mental preparation."
On the other hand the Indian captain Virat Kohli said that they got what they wanted. "We wanted to bat first anyway. We thought it would do more under lights. We want their batting to chase a score, knowing their middle is not too solid. It'll only get drier during the day. Same XI."
