For following a young boy and trying to harass a young man, an Omani citizen was sentenced to a jail term of 10 years along with a fine of Omr 5,000 (approximately Dh47,000).
The accused tried to pressurise the boy into inappropriate behaviour, officials told Times of Oman.
The accused chased the boy for days in the neighbourhood and found him alone at a barbershop. He then asked the accused for his phone number and threatened that he would spread rumours about him on WhatsApp groups.
The boy, however, didn't succumb to the pressure and informed his father about the perpetrator.
Once the family reported him to the public prosecution, the man was arrested. It was then revealed that he had previous criminal records and was diagnosed with HIV.
The accused admitted to his crime to the public prosecutor and was charged with a number of offences, including displaying inappropriate content involving children, and violating the cyber law, the report said.
The man was sentenced to a decade in jail and fined for harassing the boy.
