Eid Al Fitr is not only an occasion to rejoice but also an opportunity to thank the Almighty for his blessings and bounties. It is time to fete and feast with loved ones and to share happiness with those around us. Now is the time to do away with hatred, and embrace each other in the spirit of forgiveness, benevolence and tolerance. That is indeed, the message of the holy month of Ramadan. While the faithful exhibit the spirit of sacrifice in the form of fasting, Eid provides an opportunity to sharing with others the gifts that we are blessed with. The concept of 'Fitra', giving away money to the needy, as well as presents to loved ones shows that the Almighty is kind to us and our families. We are, therefore, to treat the whole humanity as one family. It is important to bring smiles on the faces of people and do away with acrimony in our day to day affairs.
The spirit of Ramadan should not end with the month. The process of introspection should continue. The glorious teachings of Islam are to serve mankind without bias. Caste, colour or religion does not matter. Fasting, prayers and supplications are to seek forgiveness and change the course of our lives. Eid reminds us to be compassionate and concerned about the well-being of those around us. What better moment for a believer that when he or she acquires more good traits and habits, and learns to coexist with fellow human beings. The message of Ramadan and Eid is enduring because it is about love.
