A China Airlines pilot was filmed napping in the cockpit of his passenger jet while the aircraft was midair. The 30-second clip was recorded by his co-pilot and the video surfaced a few days after the Chinese airlines pilots ended an unprecedented seven-day strike over issues such as pilot fatigue and long working hours, Mirror reported.
The pilot was identified as Weng Jiaqi, a senior officer for China Airlines, the national carrier of Taiwan, with almost 20 years of experience, according to media reports. It is believed that the incident happened before the strike started.
During his career, Weng has been flying mainly Tokyo, Okinawa, Seoul and Hong Kong. He is also an instructor in charge of simulations at the China Airlines Flight Training Center.
The erring pilot has been accused of ignoring flight safety procedures and has "received adequate punishment", according to China Airlines.
"In this instance, the pilot himself voluntarily reported his inappropriate behaviour in the cockpit to China Airlines,' the carrier said in a statement to Daily Mail.

It has also suggested the co-pilot who filmed and released the video may also be punished for choosing to record the clip instead of wake his senior officer up.
"Fatigue is inevitable. But as a senior officer, the pilot should have set a good example for his subordinates," an unnamed China Airlines pilot was quoted as saying to EBC News.
"If the pilot was really too tired, he should have alerted crew members and have them observe his condition," he added.
