A man claimed he "went with the flow" after seeing his friends getting engaged on New Year's Eve and decided to pop the question himself. However, he ended up proposing to the 'wrong' woman and gifted her the ring he had bought for a work colleague he was seeing.
The man, with the user name 'Propermistakeregretit', revealed that the woman he ended up proposing to was his current girlfriend whom he was planning to break up with for his work colleague, as per Mirror.co.uk report.
He posted his unbelievable dilemma on Reddit looking for ways to rectify the error.
"I'm seeing someone else, wanted to break up with her. I bought the ring for a work colleague, wasn't planning to propose until the holiday we planned. During new year's eve, I proposed to my girlfriend. It's been posted on my friends Snapchat, my girlfriends Facebook page, everywhere," the man wrote.
The man's post was slammed with over a hundred comments criticising his 'alarming behaviour' when he wrote: "Can I get the ring back and cancel the engagement please?"
One Reddit user replied: "You were planning on proposing to a work colleague when you go on holiday, despite the fact you are still seeing someone you class as your girlfriend. However, in a twist of fate, you took that engagement ring out with you on New Years Eve. Either that, or you took the wrong girlfriend out. Either way, mistakes were made."
Seemingly furious with the man's lame attitude, the Reddit user went on to write: "There is a solution: tell your (current/accidental) fiancée about the mistake. Honesty may actually be your best policy here, because I suspect that the realisation that you are such an utter fungus of a person will lead her to take the ring off and fling it."
But the man didn't stop there and claimed after much contemplation he decided to stay with his fiancée and keep the affair a secret.
He further wrote he would hand in his notice at work and 'start afresh' because he did not want to disappoint his mother.
"I've known my girlfriend longer and my mum gave me a call saying she's happy and she's always wanted grandchildren and what not so I didn't want to disappoint my mum," he wrote.
