Temperature across the country will see a slight increase from Tuesday and the winter season may start its end by mid of next month, said an official from the National Centre of Meteorology.
The revelation came on Monday - a day when Jebel Jais hit 1.4 degrees Celsius.
When asked if the country might be witnessing the coldest ever days or week, the official noted the Met Office 'didn't see' such a trend. He rather pointed out that temperature of minus 0.1 degrees Celsius recorded this January 15 or minus 1 in 2008 is 'unlikely' to happen in coming weeks.
"Sub-zero was expected in the country but didn't happen. However, he added: "If Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest peak, recorded 1.4 degrees Celsius, then some mountainous areas may have gone below zero on Monday morning."
Winter ends by March
The official mentioned that residents can enjoy the winter season for a few more weeks or a month.
"Temperature from Tuesday morning will start to increase slightly but gradually. The temperature, in days to come, will reach its usual extent. On Monday, we recorded highest temperature of 24 degrees over Fujairah international Airport. It was 22.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday. So this is a sign of rising temperature. In days ahead there will be some fluctuation in temperature but it will generally see a rise from Tuesday and Wednesday onwards," he said as an early indication of possible start to the end of the winter season. "Geographically winter season should start to end by March but meteorologically weather conditions may start to change by mid-February or end of next month."
Foggy days ahead
The official noted there will be formation of fog for next few days. However, more rain and chances of sandstorm are less.

"We have forecast for next five days and update it regularly. Some internal areas and western areas will witness foggy conditions. It will be stable weather conditions otherwise in the rest of the country. Rain is not expected but chances are always there because of the cold weather."
When asked if Saudi Arabia's cold spell or wind will have an impact on the UAE, the official said: "Most of the pressure systems work over the Mediterranean Sea and it is a factor for weather conditions in Saudi Arabia. When low pressure enters northern side of Saudi Arabia, there can be snow and wind there. We may get impacted here but depends on the strength of the pressure." ashwani@khaleejtimes.com
