The new radars shall not only nab speeding drivers, but also catch red signal violators, and those who fail to abide by lane rules or swerving, a top police officer said.
Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said a fine of Dh1,500 and six black points shall be slapped on any heavy vehicle driver who fails to stay in their lane.
"A fine of Dh400 shall be imposed on the driver of any light vehicle for the same reason, though, and stopping at a yellow intersection shall draw a fine of Dh500,"he added.
The new devices will soon be operational in coordination with the department of public services and the ministry of infrastructure development, he added.
"Road signs shall be installed prior to the intersections to alert drivers about these sophisticated radars to avoid violations."
The new radars will hopefully curb speeding violations and reckless driving, and reduce road accidents, and in turn their human and financial impact," he noted.

"This decision to install more such radars was taken after the positive results of the radars already installed on some of RAK's roads."
Recently, these radars managed to nab a careless motorist driving at a high speed of 204kmph on the roads of the northern emirate.
Official records show that up to 1,515 drivers were ticketed for exceeding the 60kmph speed limit on internal roads of Ras Al Khaimah in 2017.
Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations department, RAK Police, said that the speed limit is based on a thorough study of the nature of every direction, type and density of vehicles.
"The RAK Police spares no effort to create awareness about all types of violations among drivers, particularly speed limit rules so as to ensure smooth traffic flow and curb road accidents."
More inspection campaigns will be deployed to clamp down on traffic violations in order to boost traffic flow and ensure road users' safety, Brig. Humaidi warned.
