The Ras Al Khaimah Police have extended their discount scheme on traffic fines as per the same rules announced earlier - the sooner you pay, lesser the amount.

Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, General Commander of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, said the scheme is aimed at boosting traffic safety and encouraging drivers to be more disciplined. "As per the discount initiative, drivers shall get a 50 per cent off on their traffic fines if they make payment in the first 50 days."

How the scheme works

50% off: If you pay fine within 50 days

30% off: If you pay within 80 days
The discount shall be "exactly 30 per cent", if the due fines are paid within 80 days, he explained. "Records show that up to 190,000 drivers benefited from the drive, which was launched in December 2015."

More than 600,000 traffic fines have been cut under this initiative, he pointed out. "The drive spans all types of vehicles."

Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi said the initiative has helped decrease the daily traffic accidents from 120 to 40. "The same applies to serious accidents which have significantly dropped."

Brig Jamal Al Tair, director-general of the resources and assisting services department, said the police offer a grace period of 50 days so that more drivers can avail of the discount drive.

Brig Dr Mohammed Al Humaidi, director of central operations, said the drive has turned erring drivers into "police assistants". "Those who have had their fines cut wish to show gratitude by reporting traffic accidents, erring drivers or drivers who flee after an accident."
