The Abu Dhabi Police on Monday reminded motorists that jumping the red light is an extremely dangerous traffic offence.
As part of its safety campaign on social media, the authorities posted a photo that showed two cars which were about to crash into each other because the other failed to stop at the red signal.
Police said there are three main reasons why drivers beat the red light. The most common of which is the dangerous habit of speeding past the signal before it goes red, they said. Second is failing to pay attention to the road and the third is using a mobile phone while driving.

Cameras and other equipment installed on roads help the authorities detect violations and penalise irresponsible drivers, they added.
Penalties include a Dh1,000 fine, 12 traffic points, and a 30-day impoundment. For those driving trucks, a year-long licence suspension and a Dh3,000 fine shall be imposed, the Abu Dhabi Police warned.
